Price for quality service
THE EDITOR: At the RIC’s consultation on the Draft Quality of Service Standards for the Water and Wastewater sector on Tuesday September 28 at the Crowne Plaza, two things were painfully obvious — the public’s keen interest in WASA as a service provider, and the general ignorance of our shared responsibility for the quality of service we receive. It was clear that the quality and quantity of water provided to consumers must meet and exceed established standards.
It was clear that WASA has begun the steady and sure process of improving its operations to better serve customers. It was clear too that the price of progress would be high, but what seemed to elude the majority of consumers is the fact that each of us must be prepared to pay the price attached to quality service. As consumers we have several rights, but we also have the burden of responsibility. Improved service from WASA will come, as sure as night follows day, and so too will increased consumer responsibility.
