Golden Grades dazzles at gallops

Golden Grades continues to show progress and stole the show yesterday morning on the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. Trainers yesterday concentrated on their unraced juvenile stock while keeping their seasoned runners fresh with light exercises. The American bred three-year-old filly which showed good qualities as a juvenile when conditioned by trainer Glenn Mendez reminded clockers of her ability. She breezed through the straight (400 metres) in 23.93 seconds to attain the only “good” on the Arima Race Club official clocker’s report. The bay speedster, which was switched to trainer Harriram Gobin stable earlier this year is presently under the care of Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj.

Royal Oak Derby runner-up Latonia and her Jamaican counterparts Seattle Sue and Supremely Satisfied came out of their quarantine barn to have another feel of the sand course. The trio came unto the course after it was watered and graded to prepare for their next assignment. Latonia had a light round only increasing her steps slightly over the final 400 metres in 29 seconds. Seattle Sue, who made the early quarters in last month’s Blue Riband event before she cried out when the pace quickened, covered the last 800 metres of the course in 59.78 seconds. Supremely Satisfied, who formed part of the Jamaican contingent of five which arrived three day’s before the Derby paced from the 1,000 metres marker in the backstretch to the winning line in 1:12.52 seconds.
