Jamaicans Latonia, Uram in fast ‘prep’

CONNECTIONS of Jamaican runners Latonia and Uram stepped up preparations with their runners for engagements “down the road.” Latonia who finished second to Mucho Tempo in last month’s Royal Oak Derby, and Uram sixth, in tandem sped over 600 metres in 39.91 seconds at Santa Rosa park, Arima, yesterday morning. Both looked in top condition and were noted begging for their head as they travelled up the straight. The other Jamaican, Seattle Sue who dictated the early pace in the three-year-old classic, also came out from her quarantine barn to for a leisurely spin.

This daughter of Natural Selection/Vestia paced over 600 metres in 42.93 seconds. Supremely Satisfied, another member of the Jamaican contingent now attached trainer John O’Brien’s stable, did a similar gallop, ambling over the trip in 44.96 seconds. Justice and Explosive Suzie were among the small lot on the morning to do something of note over the same distance. Both went at handy clips, with Justice posting 38.32 seconds, and trainer Chester Roberts’ maiden finishing slightly slower in 38.90. Isle Be True was the other runners who shaped well in his gallop. The five-year-old chestnut noted for his speed, skipped over 800 metres in 52.51 seconds.
