Luann’s Passion and Arts And Lovers eye BLB Juvenile Sprint

LUANN’S PASSION and Arts And Lovers, first and second placed finishers in last month’s Angostura Aromatic Bitters Nursery Stakes, head a list of 16 entrants for the Betting Levy Board Juvenile Sprint  at Santa Rosa Park, Arima,  on October 30. Connections paid the $300 fee at the second subscription stage to be eligible to run in the 1300 metres race on the Arima Race Club Day 31 programme. The list consists of a number of unraced runners from leading stables, among which is a Barbadian-bred colt named Captain America and two un-named runners, one of  them, a Jamaican filly bred to Footloose/Suzie Southworth. Also among the intended starters is Cuatro Tempo, a half brother to Royal Oak Derby winners Top Of The Class and Mucho Tempo.

The highly thought of juvenile, owned in partnership by Rupert Leong Poi and Merlin Samlalsingh  is conditioned by champion trainer Glenn Mendez, who is best represented with six runners in the extended sprint. Royal Oak Derby winner Mucho Tempo, and French Academy, who were installed favourites to win last month’s Blue Riband event but finished unplaced, are also expected to make appearances on the same card. The duo could match strides again in the Betting Levy Board Turf Classic, or go separate ways, if French Academy chooses instead to face off  with Pave The Way and Salsa Moves in the Betting Levy Board Sprint Classic. Final subscription for the three events are due Monday.
