Teen throws himself into sea — drowns
An unidentified teen is believed to have committed suicide by throwing himself into the sea at Williams Bay, Carenage, yesterday. Around 9.30 am, the man dressed in white sneakers, striped shirt and a pair of long jeans, undressed himself and then ran into the sea. When he failed to surface an eyewitness reported the matter to the Carenage Police who contacted the Coast Guard. Officers combed the seafront in the vicinity of the suicide/drowning and after one hour, the body was retrieved.
An eyewitness to the drowning/suicide told police that the victim appeared to be distressed. Police investigators checked the pockets of the clothing belonging to the man for an identification but none was found. The teen was described as being about 18 or 19 years old, and of African descent. The body was viewed by a District Medical Officer who ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre. Police are treating the matter as a drowning pending the autopsy. PC Gaskin of the Carenage Police Station is investigating.
