CFC squeak into netball ‘semis’

DEFENCE FORCE completed an unbeaten run in the inaugural NASAMA Enterprises-sponsored Netball Super League Championship, to top Group One, when they shot down CFC 41-33 at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena. But despite their defeat, CFC also clinched a place in the Final Four and will meet Mucurapo Ex-Pupils in the second game on Wednesday, timed to begin at 7.30 pm at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex. Going into Saturday’s game, CFC needed victory or to avoid defeat by more than 15 goals to edge out Soul City, after the teams played to a 29-29 stalemate on Wednesday last.


Defence Force will clash with Police in the opening Final Four match-up from 6 pm. The teams are playing for a $10,000 winner’s prize, with the runners-up getting $5,000, third $3,000 and fourth $2,000. The Army-Coast Guard team led throughout Saturday night’s game 10-8; 21-17; 33-24 at the quarter stages. National goal-shoot Anastascia Wilson shot 16 goals from 18 attempts, Stephen Lewis 15 of 20, Dianna Pierre six of 12 and Lystra “Twinkletoes” Zamore four of five for Defence Force while Janelle Barker scored 20 of 26 attempts and Raquel Russell 13 of 22 for CFC.
