‘Compre’, Naps win North, South titles

MUCURAPO and Naparima captured the respective North and South Zone titles in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. Goals from Atullah Guerra, Cyranno Glen, Richard Roy and Akim Armstrong guided Mucurapo to a narrow 4-3 victory over St Mary’s at CIC Ground, St Clair, and dethrone the “Tigers” of St Anthony’s as North Zone champs. The “Tigers” had to settle for second spot in the zone despite a 5-0 battering of QRC at the Royalians ground, with two goals apiece from Troy Thompson and Akil De Freitas and one from Hans Rogers. Makesi Lewis equalised for Fatima in the second half as they earned a 1-1 draw at home to Malick, after Hayden Tinto had given Malick the first half advantage, while Tranquillity brushed aside Morvant/Laventille 4-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Ricardo Peltier, Keston Hamilton, Josimar Franklyn and Jonathan Ali were the goal getters for Tranquil while Michael John got the consolation for Morvant. National Under-17 captain Javed Mohammed and Adisa Connell found the back of the nets for Naps as they shut out Vessigny 2-0 at the Mahaica Oval. Naps needed full points to retain their zonal crown, as nearest challengers Princes Town earned a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Fyzabad. Anton Preddie put Fyzabad ahead in the 14th minute before Princes Town responded with strikes from Kevon Neptune (66th) and Ryan Forbes (85th).
