Defence Force battle Ex-pupils for n-ball $$
NETBALL lovers will journey to the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in their hundreds to see the first match of the best-of-three final series in the inaugural NASAMA Enterprises-sponsored Netball Super Cup Championships between Defence Force and Mucurapo Ex-Pupils. Dangling at the end of the rainbow is a $10,000 prize to the winners, with the runners-up getting $5,000. Before this match, however, defending Caribbean club champions Police take on CFC also in a best-of-three series for the third prize of $3,000 and fourth of $2,000. Although Defence Force will take the court favourites because of their runners-up finish in both the All Sectors Netball League and Port-of-Spain Netball League earlier this year, the Ex-Pupils have been solidified in the centre court by the inclusion of Hyron Browne-Baptiste and in defence by Joel Brown.
And national Under-21 goal-shoot Afeisha Noel has kept a steady scoring average throughout the tournament, helped by experienced national goal-atack Simone Morgan. Defence Force will rely on the scoring of national Anastascia Wilson at goal-shoot, Diana Pierre at goal-attack and Lystra “Twinkletoes” Zamore at wing-attack. And they are backed by national defender Alicia Liverpool, while their centre court is manned by other ex-national players Carlette Nurse, Stacy Sparks and Sojourner “Suzy” Hyles. The match up between the two unbeaten teams in the league should provide netball fans with an exciting final. First match begins at 5 pm, with the finale at 7.30 pm. Admission is $5.
