Apology by Richard Affong
THE EDITOR: I have never met Richard Affong of Carnival fame, or at least do not remember ever conversing with him. Yet I must express my pleasure and admiration in reading that he apologised to Lord Relator for what appeared to be a somewhat injudicious reaction. In certain circumstances we all are subject to indiscretions, and it takes a really big man to acknowledge that he made an error. “I am sorry” could solve a lot of problems in life, and MP Eddie Hart would have won the esteem of many if he had acted like Richard Affong.
Instead, he wasted a lot of the police and the court’s time, got convicted notwithstanding his denials, and in the end he compromised the judgment of the magistrate, who ruled that “important” persons must not have convictions against them recorded, but lesser citizens can be thrown to the wolves for life.
