Develop our own resources

THE EDITOR: I believe that God has created two types of nations — those blessed with creative intelligence and those blessed with natural resources and we can include natural talent. Those countries that have creative intelligence are those of the developed world whereas those with the natural resources and natural talent continue to be mainly among the underdeveloped nations.

In the case of Trinidad and Tobago our natural resources only became of value to us when others exploit them and pay us taxes which we need to be grateful for because had they not taken the risks, the resources would have remained right where the good Lord put them. You would notice that the countries of the third world that are making progress are those that have no natural resources and have to develop on harnessing their natural talents in order to not only survive but also to excel.

Also, one would note that those countries that have natural talent ignore the former. In most cases the natural talents are ignored and in a few cases there is migration to the metropolitan. The failure to develop our natural resources would be the reason why our nation would continue to be third world and undeveloped — not a lack of natural resouces. In fact, it is this abundance of resources that is keeping us within  third world and underdeveloped.
