Lions, Crabs storm into semi-finals
Eastern Lions Joe Public and L-Sporto Crab Connection both booked their spots in the semi-final round of the National Super League knockout competition after convincing victories in the quarter-finals on Friday night. In the first match of a doubleheader at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, the Lions strolled past M&M Harvard 5-1 while the Crabs clawed PLIPDECO Caroni 3-0 in the day’s other encounter.
Joe Public, the 2004 league champs, got an early 13th minute lead through Jason Springer, with prolific Jamaican striker Roen Nelson doubling the advantage in the 47th. Former national defender Hollis Brown got Joe Public’s third in the 51st, while Jamaican Wolrey Wolfe added two goals in the space of three minutes — 58th and 60th. Kendell Baptiste got the consolation item for Harvard in the 71st. It took the Crabs 46 minutes to break the deadlock against Caroni, when Marlon Warner opened the scoring. Midfielder Joseph Peters notched Connection’s second in the 61st while veteran striker Warren Butler completed the scoring in the 79th.
