Benedict’s advance to South Intercol ‘semis’
ST BENEDICT’S booked a spot in the semi-final round of the South Zone of the RBTT Intercol after a 2-1 win over Moruga in the second of back-to-back matches at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Adrian Paul and Akil Belfon were on target for the winners in yesterday’s match. In the first match of the day, Vessigny needed kicks-from-the-penalty spot to defeat Princes Town 3-1 after both teams battled to a goalless scoreline after both regulation time and extra time. Elizabeth’s College ended their pathetic campaign with the distinction of netting their lone goal of the 2004 season, despite going under 12-1 to Bishop’s High School in yesterday’s only Tobago Zone quarterfinal at Shaw Park.
QRC will be putting their North Zonal Intercol title on the line when they meet Malick in the second match of a doubleheader today, from 5 pm, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. The Royalians have endured a miserable 2004 campaign and will be hard-pressed to prevent Malick from prevailing for the third time this season, following a 3-1 result on September 18 and 3-0 on October 6. “Tigers” St Anthony’s will have an easier task on their hands against Tranquility from 3 pm, with the Tigers recording 7-0 and 4-1 wins on September 15 and October 4 respectively. Another double-header is in store at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva today with Tabaquite aiming for their third successive victory over Chaguanas Senior from 3 pm while Carapichaima are tipped to get the better of Union Claxton Bay two hours later.
