Boodram hat-trick stops Club Sando

POLICE and Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix advanced to the semi-final round of the National Super League knockout competition with contrasting victories at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Tuesday. The lawmen strolled to a 5-1 win over Club Sando in their quarterfinal clash while, in the first match of the evening, Phoenix needed extra-time to eliminate Superstar Rangers 2-0. Jason Boodram notched a hat-trick for Police, in the 35th, 49th and 73rd minutes, after Garfield Ambrose (24th) and Dwight Elliott (32nd) had put the lawmen ahead. Romeo Williams netted Sando’s lone goal in the 44th.


No goals were able to separate Phoenix and Rangers after 80 minutes of full-time, but Dominique Kerr proved to be the hero for the Tobagonians, scoring in the 82nd and 92nd minutes. The semi-finals will be held at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima from 6 pm tomorrow, with league winners Joe Public facing Police while Phoenix will oppose L-Sporto Crab Connection two hours later. The semi-finalists have already booked their places in the national FA competition, but there are two more spots left to be filled. On Saturday, Sando will square off against M&M Harvard at Arima from 2 pm while Rangers will meet PLIPDECO Caroni at 4 pm.Winners of Saturday’s matches will feature among the 32 teams in the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF)-sanctioned FA Cup.
