Malick dethrone Royalians
QUEEN’S Royal College ended their forgettable 2004 season, and their reign as the North Zonal RBTT Intercol champs, following a 3-1 defeat to Malick in the second match of yesterday’s doubleheader at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. But, as expected, St Anthony’s were too much to handle for Tranquillity as they prevailed by a 6-1 margin in the earlier encounter at Mucurapo. National Under-17 forward Lester Peltier notched a hat-trick past Tranquil’ keeper, and TT counterpart Kareem Charles, while another Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 player Brendon Boucaud, midfielder Troy Thompson and striker Akil De Freitas contributed one apiece. Chunalos George was the lone goalgetter for Tranquil’. Marabella Junior showed no sympathy for Union Claxton Bay in the Central Zonal quarter-final at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, as they strolled to a 5-0 victory yesterday evening.
Clint Cummings opened the scoring after 15 minutes of play while the prolific Akim Marshall struck twice, in the 36th and 53rd minutes. Keston Grant made it 4-0 in the 79th while Akil Zephyrine ended the rout four minutes from time. Tabaquite took care of Chaguanas Senior 2-0 in the first match at Couva to move into the Central “semis.” Two second-half goals by Kerwyn Subero and Miguel Teemul were enough for Tabaquite, who will face a tough task against Presentation College on Tuesday. Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) East Zone and “Big 5” title-holders, St Augustine will begin their quest today for the East Zonal Intercol crown with a fixture against a struggling Valencia at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima from 5 pm. In the day’s other match-up, defending East Zonal Intercol champs, Arima will meet the El Dorado at 3 pm.
