Mucurapo drop eight on Morvant/Laventille

STRIKER Keshawn Hunte notched a first-half hat-trick as Mucurapo roasted Morvant/Laventille 8-0 in their North Zonal quarter-final clash in the RBTT Intercol tournament yesterday. Also advancing to the North Zone semi-final round was Fatima, who responded from an early setback to crush St Mary’s 4-1 in the second match of a doubleheader at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Mucurapo, the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone champions, were always expected to prevail against a weak Morvant outfit, and Hunte netted his treble in the seventh, 22nd and 30th minutes.

Christon Thomas (43rd) put Mucurapo 4-0 up at halftime while national Under-17 defen-der Khaleem Hyland got his name on the scoresheet in the 52nd. Nigel Arthur (59th) and Irvin Rullow (67th) added further misery to their deflated and dispirited opponents before Richard Roy completed the rout in the 85th with a delicate lob over goalkeeper Stanley Gittens. Naparima progressed to the final four in the South Zone after a 3-0 victory over Pleasant-ville at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Mar-abella last night. In the earlier South Zone encounter, Fyzabad needed kicks-from-the-penalty spot to eliminate Mayaro 5-4 after both teams were locked at 1-1 after regulation time and extra time.
