Rowley summons Garcia over Sobo houses
HOUSING Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday summoned the National Housing Authority (NHA) chairman, Noel Garcia, to a meeting to discuss reports that NHA homeowners at Sobo Village were refusing to accept keys to new housing development apartments in the area. NHA corporate communications manager, Gervon Abraham, told Newsday the minister and Garcia met and discussed the matter. Several residents of Sobo Village in La Brea, who were recipients of NHA flats, have reportedly refused to accept keys because the houses’ infrastructure had deteriorated.
The residents have also complained of bad roads and lack of a water supply. Abraham told Newsday, “The minister requested a meeting with the chairman. I know the issue will be dealt with by the NHA.” The new homes, which are two and three-bedroom units, are priced between $100,000 and $115,000 respectively.
