St Augustine, S/Juan advance to East final

THE “Green Machine” St Augustine will square off with San Juan in Friday’s East Zone final of the RBTT Intercol after both teams recorded comfortable semi-final wins yesterday at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. St Augustine trounced the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado 6-2 while, in the earlier fixture, San Juan ended Hillview’s 2004 season with a 5-2 triumph. Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 midfielder Terryl Elwin led the Bourg Mulatresse-based outfit to victory against Hillview with a hat-trick while Ayinde George and Kerry Daniel notched one apiece. Carlyle Mitchell and Stefan George were on target for Hillview, who ended this year’s campaign on a sour note.

Another team to taste a heavy defeat was El Dorado, who conceded two goals each from Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 players Devon Maxwell and Shane Calderon, while national Under-17 midfielder Shastri Spencer and John Stewart added one apiece for the “Big 5” giants. Efforts from Dwight Critchlow and Kenata Morris were scant consolation for “El Do”, who have endured an up-and-down season. As expected Presentation Chaguanas booked a Central Zone final spot after a 4-0 whipping of Tabaquite with a double from Marvin Manswell (15th and 52nd) while an own goal in the 54th and Keon Power’s 89th minute strike completed the win. In Monday’s final, Presentation will face Carapichaima, who needed an 82nd minute winner from Kevon George to defeat Marabella 1-0.

Action continues today in both the South and Tobago Zones, with matches scheduled to begin at 3pm and 5 pm. At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, St Benedict’s will be vying for their third straight victory over Vessigny, following a 3-1 result on September 25 and a 2-0 result on October 12. In the late encounter, Naparima are tipped to defeat Fyzabad for the third successive time, after a 2-0 scoreline on September 22 and a 1-0 scoreline on October 9. Scarborough have earned two 5-0 victories over Bishop’s, but any victory today at Shaw Park will see them advance to the Zonal final. At 5 pm, also at Shaw Park, Signal Hill will face a tough Roxborough outfit, on the heels of a 2-2 draw on September 18 and a 2-1 win for Signal Hill on October 5.
