Fyzabad upset Naparima in South Zone semi-final

FYZABAD pulled off the first major upset of the 2004 RBTT Intercol season with a 2-1 win over the defending South Zonal champs Naparima in the second match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Sta-dium, Marabella yesterday. Vessigny will be Fyzabad’s opponents in the South final on Saturday, also at Marabella. A penalty from Kurt Williams in the 38th minute and a strike from Kareem Balthazar in the 89th gave Vessigny a 2-0 win over the highly-fancied St Benedict’s. Reigning Tobago Zonal winners Scarborough booked a final spot following a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Bishop’s at Shaw Park.

They will face Signal Hill at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Tuesday after S/Hill edged Roxborough 3-2. Semifinal action concludes today with a doubleheader at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 3 pm. The “Westmoorings Tigers” St Anthony’s will be seeking to advance to the final at the expense of Malick, with both teams battling to two drawn results already this year — 0-0 on September 10 and 1-1 on September 30. The day’s other fixture will see Mucurapo meeting neighbours Fatima. In their first clash on September 18, Fatima prevailed 2-1 while Mucurapo earned a 1-0 victory on October 6.
