Tazer and Laser guns coming

IN addition to their baton or service revolver, policemen would soon be carrying around a Tazer Stun Gun. Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul disclosed Tuesday night that this piece of equipment would be used to immobilise criminals. The Tazer Gun is used by police forces in North America, Europe and England. He said the Lazer Gun was also to be made available to the Police Service. That piece of equipment is used to detect motorists who drive at excessive speeds on the nation’s highways. The Police Commissioner said the equipment was currently being sourced from abroad. Addressing the Rotary Club of San Fernando, Paul said the nation’s protective services were currently engaged in an all-out war against increasingly brazen criminals in the country.

Paul disclosed that a joint-committee of members of the Ministries of National Security and Education had been formed to analyse and submit solutions to tackle rising incidents of indiscipline in the nation’s schools. The respective ministers are chairing the committee. Paul echoed the call by Senator Prof Ramesh Deosaran for parents to be held responsible for the “bad” actions of their children. The commissioner said, “Parents have a serious role to play in the lives of their children, and they cannot afford to abdicate their responsibility. Probably, the time has come for society to hold parents responsible for poorly brought-up children.” Paul also said the Police Service would soon be fully computerised in its operations. Held at Horace’s Garden Restaurant in San Fernando, the commissioner told Rotarians the time had come for all segments of society, including service organisations, to band together in the fight against crime.
