On the verge of a lawess state

THE EDITOR: Sir, I wonder if TT has gone mad and lawless, since the very people that we have trusted to enforce the laws are they themselves lawbreakers and murderers. Even the citizens are taking the law into their own hands. We are really ‘‘going down’’ a destructive path. How could someone take their car and ‘‘mow down’’ people? I am talking about the recent incident with the guy who said he was going home from a fete, intoxicated and sleepy. He should not have been driving in the first place, even when he said he had been robbed of a measly $60 TT and $5 US dollars . . .  So, in his drunken state he decided to take it upon himself to be judge, jury and Executioner, so he took the law into his own hands by ‘‘mowing down’’ the first two male pedestrians he saw and venting his anger on the unsuspecting youths . . . using his car as a lethal weapon.

Thank God he was not a police officer and had his firearm with him, then the body count might have been more. This type of attitude is what has this nation the way it is today, that is lawless everywhere! So, pedestrians, when you are walking on the streets, be careful of any approaching vehicle since the driver could simply ‘mow’ you down and say that you have just robbed him of $2 TT dollars. Whether the young men were guilty or not, this is cold blooded murder. No jury has found them guilty yet and one is dead and the other is badly wounded; whilst the driver is free. People of TT: we must pay attention to these types of incidents that are happening in our country, otherwise we will sink deeper into the jungle law. We of TT have very short memories.
