Restaurant owner sues city

Dee Balo’s restaurant in St James is suing the Mayor and the Port-of-Spain City Council over alleged false statements made about the  restaurant. Balo’s writ was filed yesterday in the Registry of the Port-of-Spain Supreme Court by attorney Azeem Mohammed. The restaurant proprietor is claiming damages arising out of  defamatory statements made by City Council  health officials and others about the restaurant and which were published in the media. The publication, the proprietor said, caused him to suffer substantial losses and business by bringing the restaurant’s reputation to scandal, odium and contempt.
