Timing in naming WI coach knocked

WEST Indies Players’ Association boss Dinanath Ramnarine expressed disappointment with the West Indies Cricket Board over the manner in which they appointed the new coach and his assistant. Ramnarine said, while his association wish to acknowledge the appointment of Bennet King as coach, David Moore as assistant and Sir Garfield Sobers as technical consultant, “WIPA are extremely disappointed that the WICB did not make these appointments in time for the new coach and his assistants to witness the recently concluded West Indies Regional Limited Overs Cricket Championships.” He pointed out it was the view of the WIPA that the coach and his assistants missed out on a golden opportunity to witness all the regional and international players on display prior to the one-day series early next year in Australia.

Ramnarine said: “What is even more disappointing was that the WICB who were fully aware prior to the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy in England, that the incumbent coach Gus Logie was not going to continue in his role as coach of the West Indies Team.” He said he understood a selection process was to take place in order to appoint the ideal candidate, but “we think that the board had sufficient time to get the coach and his assistant  in place and have them witness the players on stage in Guyana and Barbados.” Ramnarine pointed out that this is yet another example of what he described as “the ineptness” that WIPA and their members have complained from time to time again to the WICB. He said he now awaits correspondence from the WICB concerning the preparations for the tour to be discussed and agreed to by both parties. Ramnarine, however, on behalf of WIPA wished coach King, assistant Moore and Sir Gary all the best in their new roles.
