No decision on UNC elections yet
UNC CHAIRMAN Wade Mark yesterday said the party’s national executive will take a decision regarding the party’s internal elections within two weeks time. The elections were due to be held in September but were postponed following the release of an Elections and Boundaries Commission Report which proposed increasing the number of constituencies in Trinidad and Tobago from 36 to 41.
Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday said the party felt it best to postpone the elections until the report’s implications have been thoroughly reviewed. Mark told Newsday that the UNC’s national executive will soon discuss when the elections should be held. At these elections, the UNC is expected to elect three deputy political leaders. Sources have tipped Opposition MPs Winston Dookeran, Ganga Singh and Kamla Persad-Bissessar for these posts.
