Vendor arrested for sex with minor

A 36-YEAR-old vendor is expected to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today for allegedly having sex with his eight-year-old neighbour. The man, of South Oropouche, is alleged to have committed the act at the girl’s house last Tuesday. The victim’s younger brother was close by, police said.  The suspect was held the next day after a primary school student and her grandmother made a report to the police. According to reports, on Tuesday around 4.30 pm the suspect entered his neighbour’s house where he found the victim and her brother.

Police indicated that the suspect committed the sexual act on the girl, then left the house. The next morning the victim complained to her grandmother about pains in her stomach and told her about the incident. Following a report to the police, the girl was taken to the district medical officer at Palo Seco and medically examined. Sgt Rampersad, Cpl Rodriguez, PCs Sookdeo, and Boodlal, went on enquiries and arrested the vendor in connection with the incident.
