Desert United women chase windball title

DEFENDING champions Desert United of Tunapuna meet arch-rivals Ex-Nationals in the first of two semi-finals in the Women’s Division of the Radio 90.5 FM National Windball Cricket Championships. The teams will be aiming at the national title and the $10,000 winner’s purse that goes with it. But, this year’s semi-finals in both the men and women categories, will be played on a best-of-three match series for the first time. The other women semi-final will pit South queens Players of Princes Town against this season’s North champs Rebirth. Both matches will be played at NSL Grand Slam Park starting 2 pm today.


In men’s action, Tobago kings C&B United who have played through 11 matches unbeaten, are making a bold bid for top honours and the $40,000 prize money when they take on Base Boys 2 of Cunupia at Shaw Park, Tobago, today from 2 pm. The teams meet in the second match at Grand Slam Park tomorrow from 10 am. C&B United mark the first time ever a team from the sister-isle have made it to the semi-final round of the championships. Grass Roots of Maracas, St Joseph play Five Rivers Artilleros in the other men semi-final also today starting 2 pm at the same venue. Second leg of this series takes place tomorrow from 10 am.
