Malick girls advance to Intercol football

DEFENDING RBTT Intercol Girls champs Malick advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the 2004 tournament following a comfortable 5-2 win over Pleasantville at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Tuesday. Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Nyasha Reyes netted a double for Malick, with fellow national youth players Afiya Castle and Anastasia Prescott, as well as Danelle Douglas, chipping in with one apiece. Cecile Hinds and Janine Francis were the goal-getters for Pleasantville. St Joseph Convent Port-of-Spain inflicted a severe 11-1 drubbing on the combined Point Fortin Junior/Holy Name Convent outfit at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella in another first round contest. Bianca Walker found the back of the net eight times while Tyanna Jan, Jihann Miller and Anika Ouditt were the other scorers.

Shelly-Ann Griffith got the lone item for the Southerners. Another big winner in the first round was St George’s College, who strolled past Tranquillity 10-0 at the St George’s Ground. National midfielder Aveann Douglas and Nneka Garcia netted four apiece for St George’s, while Mandisa Jones and Chevonne Forde got the others. Quarterfinal action began yesterday with Moruga Composite facing Providence Girls’ at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Today, St Joseph Convent square off against Arima Senior at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo at 10 am while St George’s meets Corpus Christi from 2 pm. Also at two o’clock, Malick will oppose Maple Leaf at the St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings.
