Sports Ministry must give cricketers $100 per day

EX-NATIONAL cricketer Justice Prakash Moosai issued a call to government to help finance programmes to encourage the promotion of cricket in Trinidad and Tobago. He made the call while speaking at the presentation function of FCB Clarke Road United on Saturday night last. Justice Moosai suggested the Ministry of Sports should pay special stipends to all cricketers who participate in both Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board National Cricket League Division One and Division Two competitions.

He said: Because of the exorbitant cost of cricket gear and travelling to play cricket in the various competitions, government should pay a minimum of $100 per day to all players. Justice Moosai pointed out, this stipend will help cricketers offset the huge cost they are burdened with each year. A founder member of Moosai Sports Club of Tacarigua, Justice Moosai praised the Trinidad and Tobago team under skipper Daren Ganga for winning the President’s Cup limited-overs series. And he pointed out he knew Richard Kelly possessed tremendous potential, watching him perform as a member of Moosai Sports.

Justice Moosai expressed the hope Kelly would develop his game and become a player in the mould of England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. He also richly praised young Sherwin Ganga and Gregory Mahabir for the parts they played in the Trinidad and Tobago victory. Clarke Road United, led by ex-national all-rounder Mahadeo Bodoe with another ex-national Roland Sampath as coach, won this year’s Carib Narional Cricket League Division One title for the first time, and also added the Fruta 20/20 Cup.
