Different strokes by TTCBC
THE EDITOR: I have seen in the news covering Imran Jan that he was not selected to practise for TT in the Carib coming series. It was reported that the selectors said this was punishment for his behaviour during the recent one day series when, it is alleged, he refused to open the batting. It was said he had received permission to do so from the coach. Later he apologised tot he team and TTCBC, and was fined his fee for one match. It seems strange that Ganga, the captain who has on many occasions played for the West Indies as an opener, was allowed to bat at number three for the entire one day series and nothing was said of this. There is a saying “different strokes for different folks.”
If Hayden, the Australian, the former world record holder, had told the tour committee he would not open the batting I know his manager would have sent him home immediately. Similarly, when Jan had refused to open surely the manager should have sent him home, not wait to report him after the tour. And yet he played the whole tour. The TTCBC should fire the manager and fine him his fees for every match Jan was selected, not fining and reprehending Jan.
