Grenada crush Puerto Rico 5-2
GRENADA crushed Puerto Rico 5-2 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar yesterday and now look likely to join Trinidad and Tobago as qualifiers from Group “D” for the next round of the Caribbean Football Union Digicel Cup. As early as the first minute, Grenada were in front courtesy an own-goal by defender Marco Velez.
And Ricky Charles doubled the advantage in the third for a 2-1 half-time interval scoreline. Dennis Rennie blasted home the third goal after 57 minutes and Bernard Williams made it 4-0 in the 68 before Cassim Langaigne rounded off the “Spice Islanders” scoring in the 75th. Jose Garcia netted for Puerto Rico in the 84th as the Grenadians coasted along, and Isaac Rivera got another in the 86th for the final scoreline. Trinidad and Tobago were scheduled to play Suriname last night in the second match of the double-header which brought the curtain down on the Group “D” play-offs.
