Another toothless bulldog
THE EDITOR: Apparently we have another sleeping Commissioner of Police, or as a predecessor said “toothless bulldog.” The policeman’s job is basically law enforcement and crime prevention. Once a crime is committed, or is being attempted, the police are supposed to swing into action. There is supposed to be a reaction from the police in response to a crime in progress, to bring an end to whatever the offence is, once our law books deem such action as illegal. How then can we explain music pirates playing obviously pirated music on street corners in full view and earshot of patroling officers who do nothing to stop this crime in progress. Then there are maxi taxi touts, hooligans who extort money from drivers whose vehicles would be filled with passengers with or without the cajoling of these miscreants.
Drivers pay them so as to not have their windshields smashed or their persons physically assaulted. The police pass by and allow these louts to continue this obviously illegal extortion racket in San Fernando, Chaguanas and in Arima. Then there is urinating in public — a crime which is dominated by men who carry on this disgusting practice in full view of all including the police. Women do not squat at every lamp post and urinate and so too men should not be allowed to continue this practice. One bank in San Fernando has had to employ a cleaner who has to wash away urine trails from the sidewalk and its walls. The police leave these dirty Trinbagonians unmolested with this practice. Come on Commissioner get cracking and enforce laws you and your men have sworn to uphold.
