Govt examines burials in TT

A COMMITTEE is being established to look at the practice of public burials at cemeteries and crematoriums across the country, according to Local Government Min-ister Rennie Dumas, who was at the time addressing a media briefing held by Bel-grove’s Funeral Home to announce plans to construct a state-of-the-art crypt burial system in Orange Grove next year. Dumas explained that Government was pre-sently reviewing its policy regarding funeral services in the country, and the method by which the disposal of “loved ones” was handled.

He said that the new facility at the Orange Grove Memorial Gardens is one place where proper disposal of a deceased person would be facilitated. With regard to the licensing process, Dumas said that the licence was granted to Belgrove’s Funeral Home with special conditions attached. One such condition, allows for a take-over of the maintenance of the facility if the funeral home is unable to do so in the future. Dumas said this would be facilitated through payments garnered from the licence fee.
