President still at St Clair
President George Maxwell Richards will not make his usual appearance at Poison’s “warm-up party” tonight at the Anchorage. The President’s doctors at St Clair Medical Centre did not discharge him yesterday as anticipated. Sunday Newsday learnt his doctors wanted him to rest some more, so they kept him another day and may possibly discharge him today. President Richards was admitted to St Clair last Thursday after feeling unwell and was later diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat due to hypertension (high blood pressure.) A statement from the President’s office described his condition as “good,” stating that “the irregularity has since been corrected and the doctors in attendance are pleased with the result.”
While at St Clair, the President will use the opportunity to do some additional tests. The statement also said the President was expected to be discharged soon. The President’s son, Dr Mark Richards, said on Friday his father was doing well but will be kept overnight for observation. President Richards, known to enjoy a good fete, previously attended Poison’s fetes and would have almost certainly been at tonight’s fete, had it not been for his health problem. Meanwhile, in his absence, First Lady Dr Jean Richards was expected to preside over the induction ceremony of QRC Hall of Honour which was held at President’s House yesterday.
