Accident victims still critical

POLICE and hospital officials are keeping a close eye on three of the survivors of last Sunday’s fatal accident, who up to press time were still listed in critical condition. According to reports, Charlie Scarborough, 26, of Never Dirty, Morvant; Jason Gibson, 19, of La Horquetta; and Sheldon Grimes, 19, of Maloney Gardens, D’Abadie, are all warded in critical condition as a result of the Sunday morning crash. Also injured were National Under-19 cricketers Earnil Ryan, 19, who suffered a broken arm and Samuel Felix, 19. Both are members of Queen’s Park Cricket Club and in line for selection for the national team.

A total of five persons were injured and two died when National Under-19 player Jonathan Augustus, 19, lost control of the car he was driving during a heavy downpour Sunday morning. The car then ploughed into a bus shed on the Uriah Butler highway, near the Endeavour Flyover Chaguanas, as persons sheltering from the rain attempted to scamper. The cricketers were at the time going to Gilbert Park in Couva for the fourth day of trials. Shawn John, 29, of Marie Road in Morvant, died on the spot, while David Sealy, 19,  of Toucan Crescent, Maloney Gardens, died on arrival at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Grimes was also listed as dead, but latest news is that he is in a critical condition. Police said there would be an inquest, after which, based on the direction of the coroner, charges can be laid.
