Man hangs himself near South beach

DESPITE enduring death threats and verbal abuse from her son O’Neil Jagdeo, who Bhagwandaye Jagdeo described as a “no-good trouble maker,” the elderly woman cried uncontrollably when she heard the news that Jagdeo committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near a beach in Pointe-a-Pierre yesterday. “He does only give me trouble. He does drink plenty and always threatening to chop me up. Now look what he gone and do,” Jagdeo, a mother of nine cried, as she watched her son’s body dangling from a tree near Flower Pot Beach. Jagdeo, who lived at Union Village Claxton Bay, was found hanging around 6.30 am by offshore worker Dharamraj Norman, who works with the Land and Marine Services.

Norman told Newsday he was on his way home, when he noticed a man’s body clad only in a blue short pants hanging from the tree. “When I went to take a closer look, I noticed there was a jersey folded neatly and placed on a concrete bench near the tree,” Norman said. He added that he had seen Jagdeo sleeping on the bench on Wednesday night as he (Norman) was on his way to work. Shortly after the discovery, a man who gave his name as “Fitzy” came to the beach to hunt birds, when he also saw the body and recognised Jagdeo as his neighbour. The men quickly went home to alert the victim’s mother.
