Beaten to death with wood

A 34-year-old jewelry vendor was beaten to death at Semp Avenue, Malabar, around 7 am yesterday bringing the murder toll for the year to 245. Police investigators seized a piece of blood-stained wood which they believe was used to kill Ashton Richards. Reports revealed that around 10 am yesterday, Marcus Richards was called out of his home and told by a neighbour that his son’s body was lying in the yard of an abandoned house. Marcus told Newsday that he went to the yard of the house located next door and saw the blood stained body.

He said he did not hear any strange noises coming from the house, and was unsure why his son was killed. According to Marcus, his son had a manslaughter case pending in the High Court, but he did not feel that the case is linked his son’s murder. He said that his son did not indicate to him that his life was being threatened. Marcus said that the last place his son was living was St James and he was the father of one. He remained baffled as to why his son was killed and is calling on the authorities to find the killer or killers. Marcus said that the death has saddened him greatly especially since he considers his neighbourhood  a safe one. Police investigators yesterday called on anyone with information on the murder of Ashton Richards to call Crime Stoppers at 800-tips. Officers of the Malabar Police Station are investigating.
