East football a success...but

FOOTBALL in the Emerald Apartments and Plaza-sponsored Eastern Football Association completed what was described as “a successful season but not without moments of difficulty.” This description was read out to club officials, players, referees and well-wishers by EFA president Lennox Watson at his association’s end-of-season ceremony on Saturday night. He told the gathering at Mandela Hall, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya at times the season was contested in a very hostile environment, leading to some games being aborted.

And the former Deputy Commissioner of Prisons urged players to exercise discipline, and supporters to let matches go ahead since everyone wants to win, but there could be only one winner. He lamented the fact that on occasions during the just-concluded season, referees were abused, cruticised and even assulted, and commended the referees for continuing to officiate. “So we are here tonight at the end of the season,” he said. Watson pointed out to the gathering, “referees are necessary for without them there will be chaos, there will be no game.” He expressed the hope that the experience of this season serve as a lesson for the next.
