Teenage ‘bouncer’ questioned

JAMAL WILLIAMS, a 16-year-old former student of the Diego Martin Junior Secondary School, who was stabbed once in the back while at a party in Westmoorings, succumbed Sunday morning at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Two other teenagers who re-ceived stab wounds were treated at the hospital and discharged. The suspect in the stabbing death was also treated at the hospital for injuries. Up until late yesterday, he was detained at the St James Police Station. Reports revealed that Jamal Williams and two of his friends were at an all-inclusive party held in upscale Columbus Circle, Westmoorings, around 2.30 am on Sunday, when he  reportedly got into an argument with a bouncer.

The bouncer reportedly at-tempted to throw Williams out of the party, and two other teenagers came to his defence. Reports showed that Williams, two other teenagers and the suspect were seen fighting and throwing missiles. The parties were subdued and as Williams was about to leave, he was stabbed once in the back. The wound punctured his left lung. He was rushed to the Casualty Depart-ment of the Port-of-Spain General Hospi-tal where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A La Horquetta, Arima bouncer was detained by police after being treated for injuries. Police have since recorded statements from two teenagers who witnessed the stabbing.

At Hillview Drive, La Puerta Avenue in Diego Martin, relatives of the dead teenager said he lived alone and dropped out of school last year. They added that he rarely ever stayed at La Puerta and spent a lot of time with his teenaged friends. Sharmain Cameron, an aunt of the dead teenager, said Williams was an average “miserable” teenager but maintained that he was not a bad boy. Cheryl Cameron, a teenaged relative of the dead man, said she was unsure why her relative was killed. Williams’ funeral will take place on Thursday from the St Paul’s Spiritual Baptist Church. The body will be interred at the Carenage Cemetery. An autospy carried out by Dr Hughvon Des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre revealed that Williams died from shock and haemorrhage consistent with a stab wound to the left lung. Officers of the St James Police Station are investigating.
