Rectifying the problem after Onika accident
THE EDITOR: It is with great displeasure that I write to you. I work within the Laventille area on the Eastern Main Road and for the past month we have suffered the unfortunate circumstances of working in an area that is prone to flooding. This flooding is mainly due to a drain that is clogged with debris, dirt and other material; because the drain is clogged the water now runs over unto the Main Road constantly. On Saturday December 11, 2004 when I heard on the news of the accident that occurred I was totally appalled because I immediately knew what was at least one of the causes of this accident.
Why does it always have to take a tragedy in this society to invoke action from our Government? My office called Ministry of Works and WASA on numerous occasions and complained about this problem and here it is it took an accident where one of our soca artiste Onika Bostic had to be critically injured for them to commence rectifying this problem. When will Mr Manning and his cabinet stop promising “2020” and really focus on the problems that this country is facing? I think that it is time the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago have a Government that is “People Centred” and not “Self Centred”. In closing I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Onika Bostic, and she will continue to be in my prayers.
