Unconscious man arrested
After assisting two men in a wrecked car at the side of the Solomon Hochoy Highway, Highway Patrol Police slapped handcuffs on them after firearms and ammunition were allegedly discovered in the car. Police reports indicate that around 3.45 am yesterday, police officers from the Highway Patrol Division (South) were on mobile patrol in the vicinity of the Claxton Bay Flyover when they observed a vehicle in a ditch at the side of the highway. The lawmen stopped to investigate and found the driver pinned behind the wheel and a male passenger unconscious.
However, as the policemen looked further into the vehicle they observed a nine millimetre pistol, a .38 revolver, and three live rounds of ammunition. The lawmen contacted the Emergency Health Services for an ambulance, which rushed the two injured men to the Couva District Hospital. After a medical examination the suspects were found to have suffered minor injuries and the men were discharged from hospital and taken into the custody of police. The suspects were expected to be charged for the offences of possession of firearms and possession of ammunition. WPC Moses and PC Walker are investigating.
