Body dumped in Couva canefield

THE BODY of a Cocorite man bearing mulitple gunshot wounds to his groin and back area was discovered in Couva yesterday. The man of African descent and who appeared to be in his late 20s, was discovered by a passer-by in a canefield at Old Rivulet Road, Milton Village, around 11am. Homicide investigators said rigor mortis had already set in, but the cool weather conditions prevented the body from decaying. The body, clad in a grey, red and blue jersey, three quarter pants and a pair of red Timberland boots, was found face down some 90 feet off the roadway.

A watch was on his hand and an empty wallet and paper with the name Andell Allen were retrieved from the pants pocket. The deceased, police sources said, was recently charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Police believe the man was executed on Saturday night and his body dumped in the canefield by his killers. District Medical Officer Dr Birjah visited the scene yesterday and ordered its removal to the mortuary for an autopsy today. Visiting the scene yesterday were Homicide detectives Ag Insp Clyde Phillip, PC Harripersad and police officers from the Couva CID headed by Ag Sgt Ramlogan. Ag Sgt Ramlogan is continuing investigations.
