Roller coaster ride on CR Highway

THE EDITOR: It is a pity that international inspectors do not check all our road works rather than just the airport runway. Your recent report on the start of a third lane for the CR Highway from Curepe to UWI brings to mind the grossly substandard job done on the third lane from Valsayn to Curepe. It is quite a roller-coaster ride which at points, threatens to throw you off into the drain. For a comfortable ride, one has to use the old lanes! I only hope it is not the same contractor doing the new section or he will have us spinning off into the grounds of St Augustine Girls High School. I guess it would add a little excitement to our journey eastwards!

Perhaps international inspection is not a bad idea so that incompetence can be exposed as it was at the airport. But then, exposure doesn’t necessarily mean that anyone would be held accountable — least of all our erstwhile engineers at the Ministry of Works who accept shoddiness on a regular basis. And, oh yes, we don’t like foreign experts telling us anything, so we had better shelve that idea!
