Five babies born Christmas Day at San Fernando Hospital
FIVE babies were born Christmas Day at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) and guess who was present to share the joy with the babies’ mothers — Santa. The five babies were born early yesterday morning two hours apart. According to nurses on 13 A maternity ward, it was the first time five babies were born within two hours on the morning of Christmas Day at SFGH. The first born was at 1.16 am to Antonette Johnson of Samuel Road, Basterre, Moruga.
The baby weighed 3.46 kilogrammes. Minutes after, Ingrid Merit, of Warden Street, California, delivered a baby boy which weighed 3.2 kilogrammes. The two babies who followed approximately two hours after, were born to Avian Belgrove of St Mary’s Village, Moruga and Sandra Sookdeo, of Harmony Hall, Gasparillo. They weighed 3.1 and 3.28 kilogrammes respectively. All five mothers and their babies were in good health, nurses said, without any complications occurring during delivery. At sunrise yesterday, Santa rode into the hospital’s compound on a fire truck and greeted the mothers of the Christmas babies. As gifts, he handed each mother a basket of baby products — diapers, powder and cream. Then holding each baby in his arms, Santa whispered in their tiny ears — Merry Xmas.
