High chicken prices in TT vs US

THE EDITOR: It is a horrific situation for consumers in TT who are at the mercy of local chicken owners during this Christmas season and are being forced to pay higher chicken. As dual citizens now residing in Queens, New York, the price of chicken is approximately US.32 cents to .45 cents (TT$3) per lb retailed at any large supermarket in the US compared to the TT equivalent of US$1.52 (TT$9) and locally sold. This is a total negative reflection of Trinidad and Tobago with respect to its present reputation of rising food prices. The US consumers’ price inspectors will normally close down companies for three months with a heavy fine for such illegal practices more so they will almost practically be stoned to the ground by consumers.

Luckily, for these reasons this situation hardly ever exists. The US sometimes experiences high consumables but one such item which will not be touched or exploited is food stuff. It is far too important to the economy and social welfare of all its citizens. We highly recommend that this present TT Government who we understand is responsible for the current trends in rising food prices since returning to power, must no longer sit back and allow the continued brutality of illegal high food prices since returning to power, must no longer sit back and allow the continued brutality of illegal high food prices by some unscrupulous business tycoons. It is with extreme importance that many of the social ill effects of a nation are caused by simple issues that are made complicated.

Finally, it is difficult to ever imagine how this situation of unscrupulous pricing of chickens exists in TT. Mr Prime Minister this is not a difficult one to solve since it would create such a positive impact that every citizen in TT would be extremely grateful to you and your government for having solved such an important factor in their lives. Instanteously, this would richly pay off all concern.
