Intercol footballer killed on Boxing Day

A member of the Chaguanas Senior Comprehensive Secondary School Intercol football team became this nation’s 257th murder victim for the year, when he was chopped twice in his chest outside his Fleming Street home in Longdenville on Boxing Day. His throat had also been slit. According to reports, around 9.30 pm Clinton Seales, 17, was chopped three times while liming with a friend outside his home, and died a short while after at the Chaguanas Health Centre.

Seales, a Form Five student, was liming with a friend outside his sister’s shop, when a man he knew approached. Seales offered the man to break the seal on a bottle of whisky, and take a drink. While taking the drink, Seales’ mother Jennifer  ordered the man off her property, accusing him of stealing her son’s ring in the past. Seales, an accomplished mechanic, left the scene and went to the back where he spoke to relatives. While returning to the front of the house a man attacked Seales screaming, “Is war yuh want, is war you will get.” Seales tried to run but the attacker followed him, chopping him in the chest, and slitting his throat as he ran off.

The attacker’s brother, who was nearby, smashed two stones into Seales’ chest as he lay on the ground grasping for breath. The injured teen was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival. When Newsday visited the family’s home, a highly emotional Jennifer Seales (mother) called for justice and revenge. “I want the law to find the man who killed my son, and he feel the same pain he felt while being killed. Right now I cannot think, walk or talk. “Clinton was a loving child who was always there for me. “Recently when I experienced pain in my body, he was there to rub me down. When I had to go to Mt Hope for a heart test, he financed it. “My son never troubled anyone. He said nothing to the man who killed him and, as a matter of fact, he offered the killer a drink and should not have died so. I miss him terribly.

“Right now my Christmas and New Year’s are over. My only focus now is to bury my son, and make sure the killer gets what’s coming to him.” Jennifer confirmed it was she who ordered the man out of her yard, and she believed the killing originated out of that. Clinton, the fourth of six children, would have been 18 on January 14, 2005. Police sources told Newsday they are investigating the ring theory, but believe more is involved. The area is a well-known drug den and police believe the killing is drug-related. After a search with dogs from the Police Canine Section, a 21-year-old man of the area was held and is assisting police with the investigation. Cpl Salick of Chaguanas CID is investigating.
