Kamla urges Govt: Help quake victims
SIPARIA MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday urged Government to join the international relief efforts being directed towards the six Asian nations — India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia — which were devastated by Sunday’s massive undersea earthquake which killed at least 22,000 persons.
Persad-Bissessar said this was a catastrophe “of awesome proportions affecting the lives of millions of people,” and it was all the more heart-rendering coming as it did in the middle of the Christmas season. The UNC MP said while the death toll would continue to mount in the coming days, those who survived the disaster must not be forgotten. She said, “I have no doubt that here in Trinidad and Tobago, we would be part of the relief efforts.
