Leighton leads NEMWIL regatta
STUART LEIGHTON under sail TRI 1003 has taken pole position in the three-day NEMWIL Southern Caribbean Invitational Regatta which began off Hart’s Cut Bay, Chaguaramas yesterday. Leighton steered his craft to a total of 15 points in the Optimist overall standing, five better than Matthew Scott in TRI 1006 with another Trinidadian sailor in third on 24.
Mexican Diego Reyes aboard MEX 440 is a far off fourth on 28, followed by Trinidadian Anthony Alkins in TRI 1004 on 35 and Bermuda’s Elijah Simmons sixth on 41. At yesterday’s sail, Lauhon Jean-Denis guided his yacht to victory in the Laser Standard Class with seven points, six ahead of Guillaume Dos Santos with Philip De Gannes third on 15, Alan Alkins fourth on 17 and Christiane Farah next on 23. The SR Max Class was won by Paul Amon, Mark Loe and crew with the Gregory Lee crew filling the runners-up slot while Peter Bailey and crew were third and Nicholas Rupnarine’s crew next.
