TSTT causes billing nightmare
Yvonne Harper of 19 De Freitas Street in St James is questioning why she is repeatedly sent a phone bill of over $1,000 when her phone is not in service. She said that after a month of giving trouble, her phone stopped working in May but she was still sent a TSTT bill for that month. She made a complaint to the company and was given a new phone at the end of June. However, at the end of June she received another bill which stated that between the period May 29 and June 1, she made some 76 overseas calls totalling $1,067. Harper said that in late June she went abroad and came back in August only to find her phone disconnected. At the end of that month, she said, she received another bill totalling $1,000.
“How could I get a phone bill when I was not even here to use the phone?” Harper said. She said that after refusing to pay the bill another bill was sent last week, this time totalling over $1,200. She also received a letter stating that if she did not “clear off” her outstanding bills she would be permanently disconnected and legal action would be taken against her. TSTT service representative, Mrs Marcano, confirmed yesterday that Harper’s line is up for removal. She said that since her line is still connected, she will continue to be charged for rental services such as three-way calling, and call waiting. However, she could not explain how Harper was charged for calls she did not make. She advised her to make arrangements to speak to someone at TSTT’s Credit Department if she was unable to pay the outstanding fees.
