Chutney Soca battle for $.27M

MORE than $275,000 in prize money will be up for grabs at tomorrow’s New Year’s National Lotteries Classic Chutney Soca Monarch in South Trinidad. Preliminaries of  the competition kick off at 8 am at Screamers 2 car park in La Romaine, at which 59 artistes are listed to perform in the preliminary stage.

Top Chutney Soca artistes Adesh Samaroo, Drupatee Ramgoonai, Heeralal Rampartap, Sarika Mahabir and Devanand Gattoo are in the line-up. Thirty contestants will be selected on  Saturday night for the semi-final round scheduled for January 8 at Rienzi Complex, Couva. Fifteen will go to the grand final, which will take place at Skinner Park, San Fernando, on January 22. JMC Treveni, SSL Melobuz and Dil E Nadan, Nirvana dancers and Durga Shakti dancers are among the items of the evening’s agenda.
