Female cop beaten and robbed
A 24-year-old female police officer attached to Traffic Branch was abducted, beaten and robbed while on her way to work in Port-of-Spain yesterday. Reports revealed that around 5.45 am, WPC Sandy Johnson boarded a car in Diego Martin and asked to be taken to Port-of-Spain. On reaching near the Roxy Roundabout, the driver of the car told WPC Johnson that he had to pick up a passenger at St Clair Avenue. instead, he drove to Lady Chancellor Hill, where he began beating Johnson.
The constable was robbed of her cellphone and other valuables. She was then ordered out of the car. A report was made to the St Clair Police Station and investigations are continuing. In another report, around 2.30 am yesterday, Anderson Wilson, 25, the brother of two police officers, was asleep at Main and 10th Street, Beetham Estate, with his girlfriend, when he felt a burning sensation in his right thigh. When he realised he had been shot, he was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated. No motive was established for the shooting. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station are investigating.
