PM told to extend charity to Caparo
COMMENDING Prime Minister Patrick Manning’s initiative to give financial aid to Southern Asia to assist victims of last weekend’s earthquake-tsunami tragedy, Councillor Paras Ramoutar is also hoping that the PM’s charitable nature extends to the people of Caparo. Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Ramoutar described the PM’s move as a “very constructive initiative that is worthy of support.” He said he hoped the contribution will assist in the wellbeing of those affected.
Ramoutar also asked the PM in “his moment of charity to look a the Caparo situation and the people of the area.” He said he expected “nothing less from the PM, who claims to have the country at heart.” The Councillor for Edinburgh/Chickland said the PM must act with the same dispatch and vigilance he did when Hurricane Ivan hit Grenada, Jamaica and the Bahamas, and caused untold inhumane discomfort and damages. He has also appealed to humanitarian organisations to make a contribution. So far there have been more than 120,000 fatalities from the Boxing Day tragedy, with thousands more unaccounted for.
